then you would imagine that vista would be super duper great..... yet it is WORSE than XP in many aspects... only one time you could say that a new version was worse than the previous one, and that was windows ME but windows ME had good ideas at least, only the kernel it was using was crappy.

Ok, with XP you had XPHome and XP Professional. A developer pretty much needed XP Pro. (IIS not included with Home) ....... Now there are like 100 versions of Vista. I'm looking to get a new laptop, and need to know if I get VistaT Home Premium (if this is ok) Or do I need a Business flavor?

M$$ is not going to cut their money-making nose off to spite their face and not have a version than runs on XP as well. The Vista version may have some interesting enhancements, ( just as the 64-bit version of Far Cry ) and may be the only version available for a limited time just after Vista release.
